The world moves into 2021 with renewed hope and cheer from the prospect of seeing the end of the COVID-19 pandemic. In keeping with the spirit of the new normal, I have been working on some major changes to my monthly newsletter to you.

I feel the need to do more, to give greater value to my readers who have been so tremendously encouraging and supportive of my efforts.

First of all, I am “rebranding” myself under the banner of {P}rescription. It will consist of two sections.

  1. Thinking-Teaching-Talking (TTT) will be subsumed under the new identity but will continue as before, with more content. It can be viewed at my personal website by clicking on the link that my email will provide. TTT will be mailed to you at the beginning of every month.

  2. In view of my 4-decade long experience as a doctor, I will be launching a healthcare/ wellness/ productivity/ self-improvement (HWPS) - focused feaature. You guessed it: it’s called {P}rescription. It consists of a bunch of short videos concerning a wide range of “HWPS” items that could be of interest and value to a well-informed audience like you. {P}rescription will be sent out in the middle of the month.

You can unsubscribe at any time with one click if you feel that you could live without this bi-monthly nuisance.

Who’s the perpetrator?

Dr Arjun Rajagopalan

The Past

I was the Best Outgoing Student (Johnstone Medal - 1974) from the Madras Medical College: one of India’s oldest and most prestigious medical schools. I did my residency training in General Surgery in the US (1975-1981) at the Loyola University Medical Centre, Chicago, where I was the Best Outgoing Senior Resident (1980). I then obtained certification from the American Board of Surgery. I am a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada.

Returning to India, I helped conceive, set up and run the Sundaram Medical Foundation, Chennai, since its inception in 1994. SMF is a 200-bed, modern, full-service, not-for-profit, teaching hospital that provides postgraduate training for certification in 11 disciplines of the National Board of Examinations.

The Present

After a professional life of four decades as a surgeon, educator and medical administrator, I am now retired. Being in good physical and mental health, I stepped back to take stock of my future years. How could I provide value to a broader audience? One resoundingly clear choice came up: an explainer of complex ideas and concepts. Evidence-based medical practice has been my principal strength. I can read, analyse, interpret and apply scientific information with great expertise.

My detailed LinkedIn profile can be viewed here.

The Future

Over the years, I have used my communication skills to full effect. I write with flair, clarity and conviction. I have an excellent reputation as a public speaker. I have now launched this platform at Substack to share my ideas and points of view with a larger, not-necessarily-medical audience.
